SweetCakes is a Cake Factory that sells sweet food items to individuals, distributors, and partner businesses. They produce delicious cakes, although some customers have expressed dissatisfaction with a recurring issue. Every year in the month of June, SweetCakes hosts a special event called the Plump Cake Party, which is made available for sale exclusively on their website. However, due to limited stocks, only 10% of the audience is able to taste this delectable treat every year. SweetCakes deeply appreciates the support they receive from their audience across various social channels. This year, they have devised a different plan to address the issue. They are introducing the PlumCake Party, powered by the capabilities of Salesforce. Throughout the month of June, they will be taking online bookings on their website, allowing direct customers to prebook their cake before its baked. By leveraging this process, SweetCakes aims to ensure that every single fan of theirs can taste the special plump cake party from the comfort of their own home without any chance of missing out.
Every year, SweetCakes faces constraints in terms of budget and manpower, resulting in limited supply. However, this year they have decided to utilize Salesforce to address this issue in real-time. Rather than allocating the entire budget to a single batch of plum cakes upfront, they will allocate a portion of it for running pre-booking and marketing efforts for the Plum Cake Party 2023. Here is an overview of how the launch will happen:
SweetCakes has implemented a Web-To-Lead form to capture bookings. The form collects information such as phone number, email address, physical address, name, and the desired quantity of PlumpCake packages.
In addition to the online form, SweetCakes has activated a phone line for pre-bookings. The SweetCakes representatives access Salesforce using a lightning Flow to log phone-based bookings.
Upon successful submission, the lead or booking is added to the 'Plum Cake Party 2023' campaign in Salesforce, either as a lead or as a contact record if it already exist in the system.
The 'Plum Cake Party 2023' campaign serves as an internal tracker for all marketing expenditures, including social media, website, phone, and other channels, which are organized as sub-campaigns. It also includes the expenses associated with aligning Salesforce to support this initiative.
Based on the referral source through which individuals discovered the Plum Cake Party 2023, the lead or contact is linked to the relevant campaign for better tracking.
All campaign members are initially assigned the status of "Hungry For PlumCakes" by default.
Every three days, a list of these "hungry" campaign members is filtered using Salesforce List Views, and they are sent their payment links to finalize their PlumpCake pre-booking order via List Email feature.
Once payment is successfully made, the payment integration updates the Campaign Member status to 'Waiting for my Cake'.
The requested number of cakes are then baked and delivered by the designated delivery partners every three days. Each day's expense is requested and approved as a new Opportunity under the parent campaign for improved ROI and time tracking purposes. SweetCakes team discuss all the details using Opportunity feeds, and the finances are approved by SweetCakes' Finance Experts.
The Marketing, Sales, and Operations teams are all focused on the active campaigns at the moment. As soon as the allocated advertising budget for a specific channel is exhausted, the corresponding campaigns are turned inactive or off.
The main campaign, which is the Plum Cake Party 2023 campaign, is the last one to be deactivated or turned off.
During the pre-booking process, customers were encouraged to share their stories on social media.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the plum cakes, and now that the web form is closed, it's time to analyze the data by utilizing Campaign and Opportunity reports, which revealed exceptional results surpassing their typical June performance.
SweetCakes made some insightful decisions at the beginning of the campaign. While they could have extended the offer to all customer types they serve, they decided to focus solely on individual customers. This choice aimed to bring smiles, raise awareness, and foster trust in their cakes, thereby adding value to their partner businesses. This approach allowed them to allocate more resources to operations rather than extensive technological development: Salesforce Sales Cloud, WebForm, and Payment Provider.
With the knowledge gained from this campaign, SweetCakes now has a better understanding of the maximum demand-to-capacity ratio their team can handle. Armed with this information, they can strategize and expand their offerings of delicious plum cakes, leveraging their existing customer base. They are also aware now that they will require a marketing platform like Pardot going forward to nurture customer interactions alongside Salesforce beyond List Emails.
